When having a pet, people are usually aware that there will be some diseases that would attack them. Diseases that often attack canaries can be dangerous for them if not having the right treatment.

A healthy canary is commonly pretty active in mobile and so agile. You need to put concerned if they are sick or feeding some food that is poisonous to your pet.

1. Cholera

Cholera is one of the diseases that often attack canaries, one of the types of fruit-eating birds. It can be dangerous for canaries if they don’t get the right treatment soon.

Cholera in canaries commonly can be detected easily with some symptoms such as losing their appetite, always being thirsty, having diarrhea, and even having a bad smell in their feces, which is similar to some symptoms of ammonia poisoning in fish.

Cholera in canaries can be prevented such as doing regular cleaning of their cage, cleaning the nest, having a regular check on the veterinarian, and regularly disinfecting the cage.

2. Plague

Plague is one of the most common diseases that often attack canaries. Similar to Cholera, this kind of disease is also dangerous for canaries which could lead to their death.

Plague is one of the diseases in canaries that can be seen easily. You need to bring them to the veterinarian if they’ve got symptom such as canaries always being sleepy, they breathing heavily, and their walks is strange.

Plague will attack canaries faster and would lead them to death within 2 – 4 days or 6-8 days if they couldn’t resist properly. It is vary depend on the condition of the canaries’ health.

3. Diphtheria

Diphtheria is one of the diseases that often attack canaries that come by the virus. Canaries that don’t get any vaccination would get easily attacked by viruses, plague disease, and other diseases that bring danger to their life.

Diphtheria in canaries commonly can be detected by some symptoms such as their beak is always open, they look swallows, and always breathing heavily. If canaries got these symptoms it is better to bring them to the veterinarian soon.

Diphtheria in canaries should be prevented quickly before it spreads to another pet. You can start to separate your canaries and disinfect the cage quickly.

4. Poisoning

Poisoning is one of the diseases that often attack canaries. It can come from everything that surrounds canaries. Some metals, zinc, and similar things that usually use for their food plate could affect poison them.

Poisoning in canaries could lead to some symptoms such as shivering all over the body, paralysis on the wings, loss of appetite, and could move their leg easily. Giving milk would help them to get first aid from poisoning.

Poisoning in canaries should prevent quickly, and they need to get a veterinarian soon which is similar to the prevention of poisonous food to your dog. Separate canaries from the cage would help them, and you better disinfect the cage.

5. Canary lice

Canary lice are one of the diseases that often attack canaries, such as similar fleas that commonly attack dogs. It could be dangerous for canaries if they’ve got attacked by lice. Canary lice commonly strike canaries during the night.

You can try to catch them before they attack canaries during the night. Disinfecting the cage would be the best prevention for canaries. Canary lice can be prevented by spreading some wood powder around the canary’s cage. It would help canaries to avoid lice attacks.

6. Diarrhea

Diarrhea is one of the diseases that often attack canaries because of feeding. The symptom can be easily detected when canaries get suddenly vomit, get shiver all over their body, and have waves of nausea. Diarrhea in canaries can be prevented by giving healthy food with the right portion. Once canaries get infected by diarrhea, the cage should be disinfected quickly before it is attacked by another virus.

7. Constipation

Constipation is one of the diseases that often attack canaries because they’ve got feeding unhealthy food. Feeding them the right food, such as poppy seeds would help canaries avoid constipation.

Other than that, canaries love carrot juices instead of water which could avoid constipation properly. Carrot contains high vitamins and some fibers as well, which not only could prevent constipation but also help canaries get a good immune.

8. Pneumonia

Pneumonia is one of the diseases that often attack canaries because they drink cold water. It also can be caused by cigarette smoke or kitchen vapors around them, which is could be more dangerous for them.

Pneumonia in canaries commonly detects by some symptoms such as fever, heavy breathing, shivers as they get cold, and loss the appetite. Once canaries get these symptoms it is better to bring them into the fresh air.

Pneumonia in canaries can be prevented by easily getting the cage in the fresh air, giving them good quality food and water, and cleaning the cage regularly.
