Carbohydrate is also a rich source of fiber that is really needed by your pet’s digestive system. You need to make sure that your pets get enough carbohydrate so they will have sufficient energy, especially if they are the active ones.

When your pets are eating grains and vegetables, they will get three important things: sugar, fiber and starch. You don’t have to worry about the availability of carbohydrates in your pet’s food. Most commercial pet food, especially dog food contain at least 30 percent carbohydrates.

However, too much carbohydrate will lead to too much absorption of sugar. It can lead to diabetes. If your pet, specifically your dog is suffering from diabetes, you can manage diet for your diabetic dog.

Here are the good sources of carbohydrates: rice (cooked), corns, potatoes, barley and some whole grains, such as whole grain breads and others.

Vitamins and minerals are needed for most of chemical reactions in your pet’s body. Magnesium, for example, is in charge for muscles and calcium is in charge for the healthy bones.

Vitamins can be obtained from some other foods, such as bread, dairy products, fish, grains, milk and fruits and vegetables too. Check fruit and vegetable your pets can eat. Please check them before you feed to your pets. Prevention is better than cure.

  • Proteins

Proteins are in charge of building and maintaining muscles, bones, organs, body tissues, hair, nails and the immune system of your pets. Most of the food contain proteins, but you can get the best source of proteins mostly comes from beef, poultry, eggs, fish, dairy products, grains and soy.

Some pets, such as dogs, which have poor nutrition tend to have the risk of protein deficiency. If your pet has protein deficiency, you may see some symptoms, such as dry fur, anemia, growth problems and poor muscles development.

  • Fats

Fats are mostly blamed for being the cause of overweight pets. In truth, they are not. Fats are needed by some pets as they are the main sources of calories in your pets’ diet. One gram of fat provide twice the energy than one gram of carbohydrate or protein.

Your pets need fat for the sake of the health of their skin, coat, eyes, brain and other tissues. If you are looking for the natural and healthy sources of fat, you can obtain it from chicken fat, herring oil or lamb fat.

  • Water

Amazingly, your pet is able to survive even if it doesn’t have enough fat and protein for their body. However, your pet is able to die once it loses only 10% of the water in their body.

Canned food might contain a lot of water, however, it might not be enough for your pet. That’s why it is important to make sure that your pets always have enough fresh and clean water available near them.
