Even though dog eat meat, it doesn’t mean that you can give your dog all foods that people eat. Dogs are not used to eat some foods that we eat, they can actually harmful and toxic if eaten by dog. Even though the food is delicious or good for you. There are some of your delicious foods that are actually toxic for your dog. It’s important to know which food that you can’t give to your dog so you can keep your dog away for them. So here is the list of 14 delicious foods that actually are toxic for your dog.

1. Chocolate

One of the most favorite foods in the world, chocolate, is in fact harmful for your dog. It is already a pretty well-known fact from dog owners. If your dog eats your chocolate, it will get some of these symptoms, such as vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach, lethargy, muscle tremors, irregular heartbeat, high body temperature, or even death. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous it is to your dog. Darker chocolate contains higher amounts of caffeine and theobromine, which are toxic for dogs. But it doesn’t mean that white chocolate is safe. The theobromine includes in all kinds of chocolate although the amount is lower in white chocolate.

2. Coffee, Tea, and Caffeine

As mentioned above, foods with caffeine is harmful to your dog. Coffee, tea, and soda that you drink everyday contains the caffeine that is toxic for dogs. Caffeine is a stimulant that can damage dog’s nervous system.

3. Grapes and Raisins

The next 14 delicious foods that actually are toxic for your dog is grapes and raisins. They may not harmful for some dogs, but they have been associated with kidney failures in other dogs. Your dog could vomit, get lethargy and diarrhea after 12 hours consuming grapes or raisins. If it is not treated, it can lead to dehydration, decreased appetite, increased urination followed with decrease urination. If your dog has these symptoms after eating grapes or raisins, take it to vet to be treated immediately or else it can develop kidney problems or even die from kidney failure within three or four days.

4. Alcohol

Many foods and drinks contain alcohol, even in the small amounts. This small amount of alcohol won’t be harmful for you but it is enough to harm your dog. Syrups, bread dough, and fermented foods may have small amounts of alcohol in them. The ethanol in alcohol can cause alcohol intoxication in dogs. the symptoms include vomiting, disorientation, restlessness, panting, muscle tremors, seizures, and high body temperature. The alcohol intoxication can lead to organ system’s failure even death.

5. Bread

As mentioned above, some bread dough contains small amount of alcohol that can lead to alcohol intoxication in dogs. The yeast in bread dough can also cause stomach expansion in dogs, which resulted in tissue damage and difficulty breathing.

6. Dairy Products

Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt, or even your favorite ice cream, can give upset stomach, diarrhea, and food allergies to dogs. The reason is because some dogs are lactose-intolerant. They do not have enough amount of lactase enzyme that breaks down lactose in milk.

7. Xylitol

Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in many sweets such as sugar-free gum, candies, and baked goods. It also can be found in toothpaste, mouthwash, chewable vitamins, and cough drops. The ingestion of foods contained with xylitol can cause drop of blood’s sugar level and liver damage in your dog. Symptoms include vomiting, loss of coordination and seizures from a few minutes to hours after the ingestion. A single piece of gum contained xylitol is enough to make 10-pound dog get intoxication. Dogs that eat large amounts of xylitol can develop liver failure.

8. Sweet Foods

Another delicious food that is harmful for your dog is sweet and sugary food. Even the small amount of sugar can cause high damage for dogs. It can higher blood’s sugar levels, makes the dog becomes hyperactive and unfocused. After the impact of sugar is over, the dog will experience sugar slump when it gets sleepy, moody, and irritable. In serious case, it can harm dog’s liver and cause diabetes.

9. Salty Foods

Beside sweet foods, salty foods are also harmful for dogs. There are many people saying that popcorn and pretzels can cause stomach problem for your dog, but the real culprit actually is the salt in them. When dogs consume salt, it causes sodium ion poisoning. The dog will urinate more and feel thirstier. The symptoms may be varied from diarrhea, seizure, high body temperature, to bloating.

10. Macadamia Nuts

Ingestion of macadamia nuts can cause paralysis and lack of coordination in dogs. The symptoms include tremor, vomiting, high body temperature, and weakness. Eating chocolate with macadamia nuts will have more dangers to your dog, even leading to death.

11. Cinnamon

Cinnamon and cinnamon oil can irritate mucosa inside the dog’s mouth. It also can lower blood sugar and caused diarrhea, vomiting, abnormal heart rate, even liver disease. Dogs that inhaled cinnamon powder can also have difficulty breathing, coughing, and choking.

12. Avocado

Even though avocado is good for your health, it can make your dog has upset stomach. Avocados contain persin, which can cause mild stomach upset in dogs. The symptoms include vomiting and diarrhea. Persin can be found in large amounts all of the avocado’s plant parts, in avocado’s leaves, bark, and seeds. Make sure to keep your dog away if you have avocado plant in your backyard.

The next 14 delicious foods that actually are toxic for your dog is apple seeds. Apple seeds contain natural chemical that releases cyanide when the dog digest it. It can cause toxicities and weaken dog’s digestive system.

14. Cherries

Another fruit that is toxic for your dog is cherries. Cherries can cause dilated pupils, breathing problems, shock, or even death in dogs.

There are many other foods that can be harmful for your dog, for example onions and garlic. Make sure that you don’t give toxic foods for your dog. Do some research first, or ask your vet.
