The nature and animals was always be connected no matter what happened, even in this global warming era. Wild animals all over the world – they extinct due the loss of habitat and this extreme phenomenon. A lot of people concern due the fact of this tragedy that fell upon the wildlife – especially because human deed was took part of the extinction of those animals. The illegal hunt and trade of exotic species, land destruction, and the pollution in the air and water caused by factories; yes, human are taken part of the destruction of this earth.
For this, many people start to wondering what would happen if human do vegan diet – I mean all of the people around the world? Well, apparently this think would only solves some problem but add new problems (for further discussion I suggest you to visit the article). But, however, the discussion about the world that keep evolve over the time was true. Behind the massive extinction which happen, apparently this new species of animals keep appeared from the mother earth.
From the list of animals that freshly discovered, one of the most surprising thing was related to the animal called mold pig. But, no – mold pig isn’t a pig species like we all know. Pink skin and fat creature that love mud – no, it is not it! So, what mold pig is? Today, we would discuss about this unique species called mold pig that freshly discovered from the nature and 2 amazing facts of mold pigs which are classified as invertebrate!
1. Freshly Discovered from the Earth
From several years till now, researchers has made incredible discovery of many new species of animals around the world. These species was spread in many from diver of genus and family; a few examples of the new species are included: Tapanuli orangutan, The Gryffindor’ hat (which is the new smallest creatures that have been found; this creature size is only about two millimeters), Epimeria Quasimodo (the amphipod), blue tarantula, baffling beetle, and of course our main role character today: the mold pigs.
What most excited thing that found by researchers are this particular species called mold pigs are identified as one of the ancient’ microscopic creatures. This animal not only represented the ancient characteristics but also a new kind of species and absolutely a new entire invertebrate’ family in animal kingdom. In case, you don’t know what invertebrate is: invertebrate was all the species without backbones.
So, why this animal was called mold pig? Apparently the name came from this animal bear a resemblance of the true pig (pig that we know) which is they consumed mold. This explanation was reviled by George Poinar Jr. that published a studied on journal Invertebrate Biology. Apparently, not only the mold pig, Gorge that came from Diane Nelson of East Tennessee State University of and Oregon State University was able to found several hundred of new individuals of animals in amber, Dominican Republic.
2. The Mold Pigs had been Trapped in amber for 30 Million years!
The last fact from 2 amazing facts of mold pigs which are classified as invertebrate was before they have discovered, the mold pigs had been trapped in amber for 30 million years ago, people! It was predicted that the mold pig has lived since the mid-Tertiary period of time, the particular time where mammals was started to strut their stuff. Apparently, this animal was got themselves trapped in in amber for this whole time.
Again George Poinar who the one that discovered this species explained that the creature was shared the same characteristics with tardigrades and mites. For your note, mold pig isn’t the official name of the species, it only the nickname. Their actual name is Sialomorpha Dominicana which taken from Greek language. George then explained again: in such a long time, the mold pigs was dined on fungi and through the molting process mold pigs was shed their exoskeletons to grow.
But, then George stated that the mold pigs was kind of mysterious creature which the original lineage was unrecognized, how long this species would last, and do they have the descendant that literally living to these days.
